The Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza is a sanitary structure created and inaugurated by Padre Pio the 5th of may 1956 which one like to call it "the pupil of my eyes ". The House Relief of Pains is born as private clinic of 250 places of bed and obtained in 1971 the firsr giuridic recognition as Fundation of religion and of veneration without lucre purpose .
afterwards has had the rating oh hospital Provincial and then General Regional hospital .
Today is recognized as Institute of Rest and Cure of Scientific Nature (I.R.C.C.S.) which in addition to clinic and auxiliary activity , attends to do clinc reserch; in particular way for genetic and hereditary disease .
The classification of scientific Istitute rappresented the official recognition and the conclusion of the Opera of thought of the founder. Padre Pio realized in his aim , early in middle nine hundred , that research must constitute a rilevant part of the medical professional engagement , and active part of scientific progress.
As the years go by the structure is expanded, opening new department and stand. The structure count more than one thousand employee and bed places.
